Synopsis
The film from Higashi Yoichi,who recieved a Silver Bear award for Village of Dreams at the 46th Berlin Film Festival.
Godai Kenzo(Bunta SUGAWARA)comes back after serving 13 years in jail.
Initially,Tamako(Satomi ISHIHARA)is confused by her grandfather's behaviour but starts opening up to him and calling him "grampa.
More than anyone,Hikita,head of the Hikita yakuza clan,has been waiting expectantly for Godai's return.Godai was arrested for the killing of Hikita's follower,in revenge for Hikita killing Godai's friend. Hikita's gang kidnaps Tamako and threatens Godai,but he's able to rescue her and resolve the situation.The two men clean the slate between them.
One day,Tamako's newly righteous grandfather tries to help a young girl drowing in the river and ends up drowing himself. A year passes and Tamako swears to never forget her "grampa".
